In Dr. Smirnova's classes you learn a lot of information that will help you in the future. One of my favorite tools that I learned about was ThingLink.com. Thinglink.com is a great way to really engage the students by either an interactive picture or a 360 picture which allows you to feel as if you are really in a different location. I used ThingLink.com for a project last semester in Science Methods and I fell in love with it! I also attended a conference on ThingLink.com this semester recently and fell even more in love with it! My mind was blown how realistic and beneficial this website would be in the classroom. I am a teacher at the Boys and Girls Club after school program and I used this website in my fourth grade class. My kiddos went crazy over this! They loved it! It is very important for our students to know what is going on today! As educators it is our job to teach the students not only what went on in history but also what is going on today all over the world. Allowing students to research current events whether it be online or in a newspaper is a great way to do this. The article also suggests a semantic web as a way to discuss further events. By writing the topic on the board and drawing a circle/lines around it with what the students know is a great way to discuss current events. The article also suggests connecting the current events to the student curriculum. Allowing the students to debate topics are also a great way to educate students and further their knowledge. For the younger students role play is another great way to teach current events. For example allowing students to play news anchors is a great way to educate students. Assigning students projects using and having them look at websites like Newsela makes the students aware about what is happening today will be history tomorrow. You can also assign a time line project to show history into todays current events while using technology. 
I love this post! It is so essential to our future students lives that they are aware of whats going on in the world around them, inside and outside of the classroom! As you mentioned, a good way to encourage this is through current events and having them open a newspaper and read! I really liked how you gave great examples of how to teach current events. These are all wonderful, engaging, interactive ways to educate students about current events!
